Wow, what a week. For those of you who don’t know, it was just Mr. Ryan O’Connor’s birthweek. “What’s that? Did you mean birthday?” No I didn’t mean birthday, motherfucker, I said birthweek; A tradition I’m sure will be sticking around for years to come.
In between all the partying all the time, the surf expo decided to come to town once again. What’s that mean to you? It means RIPNDIP was out to help Team Painbuild all the buttery obstacles for all the thankless skate dirts to skate, while all the surf and wakeboard bro-brahs lurked on some surf betties and got beer from the Volcom booth.. Oh yeah, and it also means now you get a new montage to enjoy.
Besides the usual RIPNDIP team you get a couple extra special guests. Jo’s boy Justin Brock happened to be in town, so he hooked up a clip, and Brandon Westgate happened to ollie himself down to Florida, and since Westage is pro for Zoo York, and O’Con is flow, they’re basically cousins.. So you know we got Westgate up in there too. So sit back, enjoy the ‘tage, and pray to your god you don’t miss O’Con’s birthweek next year. Oh and ask me if I give a shit that you heard this song somewhere else.
Chris Thiessen, Atlanta film maker extraordinaire, is coming out with a new video. Unlike his past two videos Scarlet Fever (2007) and Meanwhile (2008), Hella’wood is an overwhelming 16 minute collage of altered footage, manipulated cityscapes, and even flashes of Scruff Mcgruff. The idea behind Hella’wood almost seems like a recreation of an acid trip. The quick editing, mixture of music and noise, and flashing colors could be hazardous for anyone with epilepsy. All the footage is filmed off the computer screen. If that wasn’t a different enough look, while re-filming everything Chris over and underexposed different things making it even trippier. Chris wanted to make a video that was just different from his others and wanted to make something with a little more creative spin to it. He approached Hella’wood as a piece or a short film rather than a normal skate video . Personally I think he’s reliving his hallucinogenic drug days he’s kept secret from all of us for all these years.
Hell’wood will be premiering Wednesday, August 29th at the East Side Lounge in Atlanta, GA. A short run of 50ish copies will be made (possible even some on VHS!). Not to worry all you out-of-towners, Chris will post the whole video online shortly after. So either get your skateboards prepped for a bad ass video to get you pumped to go skate, or get your mushrooms and incense ready for the wildest trip of your life. Or hell, maybe just do both.
For all of you that don’t know Phil aka Philthy he’s the dude at FDR with the short short cut offs and button up shirt that probably hasn’t been washed in weeks. Back Ds and front blunts. Number one dude down for a road trip before you tell him where you’re going. Camera holstered and ready to fire at will. He’s the man that says “put away your gps and lets just us a map” or “we out to dollar slice”. Phil Jackson has been taking some amazing photos for sometime now and it’s finally showing. Lurked in this issue of Thrasher Magazine

Last weekend we took a trip down to Miami for Redbulls manny mania contest. Cruising
with none other than the manual master mind known as Bert Wootton I knew deep down
we had a shot at the gold. The contest was legit this year being indoor with ac and
buttery ground opposed to last year in jacksonville where it was dead hot and for some
reason out door on some earth quake ground. Cody lucas is was all over this contest
too so you know we be OUT! Johan Stuckey was in this contest but was on some other
shit besides mannys..The judges had a super hard time with this one and gave it to
Bert Wootton with 2nd place and 3rd place to Cody Lucas. Bert also won best trick
with backside feeble grind transfer to nose manual shove out.
I wanna give a shout out to Cody Lucas turning 22 on monday!! wooohoo
Yup, Seattle again. This time there were zero RIPNDIP team
members along for the ride, just me, DW. This post isn’t
quite ready yet, but I figured you all could check the footy
before the edit is completely finished (Actually O’Con won’t
get off my back about posting this shit, so I don’t want to
deal with him continuing to send me text messages while I’m
on vacation is Chicago). Here is the rough edit. Check out
Andrew Nedimyer, Wes Ellis, and Mike Lent kill it in SEATOWN.
